New to ImageBank/iPad2 on a Mac. Couple of problems...

posted Apr 27, 2011 08:17:24 by xgraphica
I've set the image server to transfer 20 images at a time. When I access them on the iPad, I get a block of 20 thumbnail images in a 4x5 grid (as expected!) but the thumbnails are all very heavily pixellated. So much so, that even knowing what the photo's are of, I can't see which is which. It's not a streaming issue as they don't become clear with time and when I touch the first one, the full size image is clear and the slideshow works acceptably quickly (using the next "fuzzy" pre-load as a fade/blur transition would be a really neat trick here for a later version?)

My other problem is more with iPhoto as the source folder. ImageBank doesn't seem to see my smart folders or slideshows from iPhoto - even the "last import" would be good. Albums from iPhoto would be better.

Overall, imagebank does what it says it will do but there are certainly a few features that would make it more seamless for use with an iPad/iPhoto setup.

Thanks for the app so far!

You get low quality thumbnails if you're using a 32-bit Intel Mac (pre-Core 2 Duo) - it's using a fallback thumbnail mechanism. I'll try to improve this on the next server release.

iPhoto integration is certainly very desirable. I really want to add native support for it but just haven't found the time :( I'll try to get some free time and work on this.

Thanks for your comments!

I thought I'd got that as a minimum:
Model Name: Mac Pro Early 2008
Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
Memory: 10 GB

Certainly no problems running Photoshop CS5 in 64bit mode!

I understand about finding time to get onto projects ;-)

Cheers

I have the same problem with the same Mac (I've tried booting into both 32 and 64bit, and the problem persists)... Curiously, when I run Windows XP via Parallels and use Imagebank Server, the thumbnails on my iPad are great, but I don't want to be using XP in the background just for this app.

Thanks.
